Upstyling a family favorite.
My boys love Pigs in Blanket and mac and cheese. I am not a big fan but love the ease of the meal, especially on this busy Monday. An added bonus is that my youngest can help with this quick dinner option.
The Pig
First, I start with a decent frank or sausage. I love some store brand items but for this meal I used Ballpark franks. When I use sausages I typically go with Hillshire Farms. I cut the franks in half longways and diagonally but you can cut them any way you like and in any size.
The Blanket
Next I apply the crescent roll. I use Great Value Walmart brand crescent rolls. My kiddos love the Big and Buttery but there is a variety of them so definitely experiment with a few of them. I have added sesame seeds for some texture but this is optional.
I also added cheese to a few of the pigs to offer some variety. I have also drizzled honey in the past for a sweet and salty combination.
I place the pigs in a 350 degree pre-heated oven for about 15 minutes or until they are golden brown.
While the pigs are cooking I place the pasta noodles in the boiling water until they are a desired texture. I do mine for about 7 minutes. I do not follow the directions on the box as I do not add water but season my mac and cheese with Italian seasoning, oregano, basil and garlic salt. I also add a little shredded cheese to thicken the mac and cheese.
I plate the mac and cheese and serve the pigs with ketchup and mustard on the side.
Enjoy!
